Roehampton Club in southwest London has completed a significant redevelopment of its social and event spaces, with interior architecture led by DLSM Studio. The £2 million project, finalised in August 2025, reimagines key areas of the Club, including the Members’ Bar, four function rooms, a bistro, a new garden terrace and adjoining lounge spaces.

Originally established in 1901, Roehampton Club remains one of the UK’s most respected private sports and social institutions, with facilities including an 18-hole golf course, tennis, croquet, swimming, and modern fitness offerings. With more than 5,000 members, the Club appointed DLSM Studio to create a refreshed interiors scheme that aligns with the evolving expectations of its diverse community.

The design direction, described as “Moments of Calm, for a Lifetime of Energy”, draws on the club’s 40-hectare grounds and reputation as a retreat from urban life. The result is a series of layered, tactile environments featuring biophilic cues and materials intended to foster calm and connection while supporting both social and functional flexibility.

The transformed Members’ Bar now features Cipollino Verde marble countertops, handmade Spanish ceramic tiling, and a ribbed walnut bar accented with antique brass and glass lighting. The surrounding lounge areas are furnished with soft seating in natural tones, complimented by timber joinery, offering a relaxed environment suitable for both work and leisure.

A newly created space, the Polo Room, introduces a flexible setting for day-to-evening transitions. Designed for smaller functions or as an informal workspace by day, it adapts for ‘bistro evenings’ with an atmosphere shaped by warm lighting and references to the Club’s polo heritage.

Extending the Club’s hospitality programme further, the Garden Room Bar continues the visual language of the main bar while adding refined touches such as timber beading and ceiling recesses finished with wallpaper. This more intimate area is intended for dining and smaller gatherings.

Significant updates have also been made to the function rooms, which are now reconfigured with acoustic folding partitions, bespoke carpets, and green-painted ceilings that mirror the surrounding golf course. These adaptable rooms are designed to accommodate everything from bridge games to private events, with recessed lighting enhancing evening ambience.

The south-facing terrace has been redesigned with warm timber decking, striped awnings and modular planting. Capable of seating 79, the terrace is subdivisible for private functions and has been fitted with discreet lighting to reduce environmental impact. It has been positioned as a year-round social space for casual dining and outdoor events.

The work at Roehampton Club forms part of DLSM Studio’s growing portfolio of high-profile, narrative-led projects in the leisure, hospitality, lifestyle and retail sectors. The firm’s human-centred approach to design continues to shape spaces that combine elegance with operational strategy, as reflected in its contribution to the Club.

The refreshed interiors mark a new chapter for Roehampton Club, enhancing both functionality and atmosphere across its communal areas while preserving the heritage that underpins its longstanding appeal.
