The UK’s bakery sector witnesses a significant development as Cornish Bakery, an independent coffee and bakery brand, inaugurates its 58th establishment in the historic spa town of Harrogate, Yorkshire. This move is part of a broader expansion that has seen the brand grow rapidly across the UK.

Following a series of eight successful openings in the last year, including in Norwich, Bakewell, Bury St Edmunds, Canterbury, Truro, Whitby Harbour, Plymouth Barbican, and Caledonian Park, Cornish Bakery is maintaining its growth momentum. The brand’s expansion will continue with an upcoming bakery in Cheltenham and a relocation to a larger site in Salisbury.

The brand’s portfolio is set to reach 59 locations, which includes a partnership with Roadchef, contributing to an annual net revenue and franchise income of approximately £30 million. Looking to the future, Cornish Bakery is in discussions for 10 more sites, with the goal of operating 100 bakeries in the next few years.

Founder and Owner Steve Grocutt has a clear vision for the brand, asserting, “Bakery is the new coffee shop, and we’re relentless in our effort to bring our unique experience, delicious products and top-flight customer service to places and spaces all over the country.”

The Harrogate branch is located on the historic James Street, in a beautifully preserved 19th-century property. The site has been carefully curated to maintain its original features, including gilded columns and stained-glass windows, with the Cornish Bakery signage thoughtfully designed to complement the local conservation area.

Grocutt adds, “We’re delighted to be opening our Cornish Bakery in the beautiful spa town of Harrogate. We’re on a constant journey to redefine what a bakery is and what it can be. We also have a belief that our bakeries should be part of the community and so our newly employed team will be actively seeking opportunities to work with and support local organisations in the Harrogate area.”

The new Harrogate location not only signifies growth for Cornish Bakery but also represents the brand’s dedication to becoming an integral part of the communities it serves. This approach is anticipated to foster local collaborations and contribute to the social and economic vitality of Harrogate.

Harrogate’s heritage as a spa town is well-documented, with its history stretching back to the 17th century, a detail that resonates with Cornish Bakery’s appreciation for historical settings. The town’s vibrant community of independent businesses echoes Cornish Bakery’s own independent spirit, making this a synergistic addition to Harrogate’s local business landscape.
