MGallery, part of Accor’s luxury division, has confirmed plans to open its first mountain retreat in the French Alps. Scheduled to open in 2027, the property will be located in the Valmorel ski resort, marking the brand’s debut on the slopes.

The project is being developed by CLR Hotels, a subsidiary of the CGR Group, which operates across cinema, hospitality, dining and wellness. The new hotel aims to position Valmorel as a destination for travellers seeking authentic experiences, nature-focused stays and sustainable luxury.

Maud Bailly, CEO Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems, said: “Following our successful collaboration on La Grande Terrasse Hôtel & Spa La Rochelle – MGallery Collection, we are proud to strengthen our partnership with CLR Hotels through this exciting Alpine venture. Valmorel marks a first for MGallery in the mountains and represents a major step in our ambition to offer boutique luxury that is authentic and sustainable in many of the world’s most beautiful regions. Surrounded by peaks, forests, and local savoir-faire, this new address embodies the very essence of MGallery: unique places with soul, meaning, and emotion.”

The architectural work has been assigned to Bertrand Pourrier of ABP Architectes, with offices in La Rochelle and Paris. Known for cultural and hospitality projects, the agency has committed to aligning the development with RE2020 standards, aiming for BREEAM certification and using local, bio-sourced materials.

The hotel will feature 82 rooms, including suites, with direct access to ski slopes and views across the valley. Its interiors will combine contemporary design with Savoyard influences, blending sculpted wood, stone and tartan patterns. Facilities will include a fine dining restaurant, a main restaurant with a terrace, a bar, a speakeasy, a 480 sqm spa with indoor and outdoor pools, a ski and snowboard room, a private screening room and relaxation areas for après-ski.

Reflecting the brand’s sustainability commitments, the project will integrate landscape architecture, energy-efficient design and local materials. Dedicated staff accommodation will also be provided, with 43 housing units offering 80 beds, as well as a restaurant. The development will promote regional craftsmanship, produce and short supply chains to support the local economy.

The Valmorel opening forms part of MGallery’s selective growth strategy. The brand currently operates more than 120 boutique hotels worldwide, including 37 in France, with six more in the pipeline.

By expanding into Alpine destinations, MGallery extends its portfolio beyond cities, coastlines and heritage sites. The brand’s move into mountain resorts reflects its ambition to combine sustainability, authenticity and immersion in natural environments to create distinctive guest experiences.
