Few rituals are as deeply woven into British life as afternoon tea. First popularised in the early 19th century, the tradition began as a simple pause between meals and quickly grew into a beloved social occasion. Today, it remains a familiar and comforting practice, known for its carefully arranged tiers of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and delicate cakes, often enjoyed in elegant surroundings.

To celebrate National Afternoon Tea Week, running from 11 to 17 August, six venues across the UK are offering their own distinctive take on this time-honoured tradition. From floral collaborations in central London to vineyard views in Sussex and countryside refinement in the Cotswolds, each setting brings something unique to the table. Whether enjoyed aboard a yacht, in a Victorian manor or within castle walls, these experiences demonstrate how the ceremony of afternoon tea continues to evolve while holding firmly to its cultural roots.
