Mercure Benidorm feels like one of the resort’s quieter discoveries. In a destination better known for bright lights, beaches and lively entertainment, the hotel offers a calmer and more contemporary side to Benidorm. During my stay, what stood out most was its ability to feel tucked away while still keeping the beach, old town, main resort area and nightlife within easy reach.
The hotel has a softer feel than many travellers may expect from a Benidorm break. At Mercure Benidorm, guests are not placed directly in the busiest part of the resort. Instead, the hotel creates a more peaceful base for unwinding between days out and evenings in town. The design is fresh and Mediterranean-inspired, with natural tones, greenery and a relaxed layout that encourages slower mornings and unhurried afternoons. It feels polished without becoming formal, which suits the destination well.

A Pool Area With A Calmer Rhythm
The pool area is one of the strongest parts of the experience and supports the hotel’s hidden-oasis character. It feels sheltered and inviting, with planting and comfortable spaces that make it easy to spend several hours there. During my visit, it became a natural place to pause between beach walks, sightseeing and evenings out.
There was also a gentle atmosphere around the pool. Saxophone players, yoga sessions and DJs added a subtle beach-club feel at certain points, giving the hotel a light Ibiza-style edge without making that the main identity of the place. The balance worked well: the entertainment gave the day variety, but the setting still felt relaxed and easy-going rather than loud or intrusive.
The ability to have food delivered poolside was another enjoyable detail. It made it simple to settle in for lunch or a snack without leaving the sunbed, and it fitted naturally with the hotel’s laid-back style. For guests wanting to spend a full afternoon between sunbathing, swimming, reading and listening to the poolside music, it helped the day feel smoother and more relaxed.

Rooms Designed For Comfort Between Plans
The rooms continue the same calm, modern feel as the rest of the hotel. Mine felt fresh, comfortable and well designed, with a clean contemporary style that still had warmth. The space worked well as a base for a beach-and-city break: practical enough for getting ready before heading out, but restful enough to spend time in between plans.
The room design was simple without feeling plain. Natural tones, modern finishes and a relaxed Mediterranean influence made the accommodation feel connected to the wider hotel. It did not try too hard, which was part of the appeal. After time in the sun or an evening exploring Benidorm, it was pleasant to return to a room that felt cool, uncluttered and comfortable.
Close To The Beach, Old Town And Nightlife
The location is another major advantage. Mercure Benidorm sits slightly away from the most intense part of the resort, which helps give it a quieter quality, but it never feels disconnected. The main area of Benidorm and the strip are either a leisurely walk away or a short cab ride, depending on the pace of the day or evening. That flexibility is valuable: guests can enjoy the livelier side of Benidorm when they want it, then return to a hotel that feels calmer and more private.
The nearby Poniente side also adds to the appeal. Poniente Beach has a more relaxed feel, with a wide promenade that works well for a morning walk, an afternoon wander or a sunset stroll. It gives the stay a pleasant coastal rhythm and makes it easy to enjoy the sea without planning too much around it.
Benidorm’s old town is also within comfortable reach and is well worth spending time in. Its characterful streets, viewpoints, shops and more traditional Spanish atmosphere bring a different side of the resort into the experience. It helps balance the beach-and-nightlife image that many visitors associate with Benidorm.
Getting around the area is straightforward. For guests who enjoy walking, the surrounding streets, beach promenade and routes towards the old town make it easy to explore at a comfortable pace. For evenings out, or for reaching the busier parts of Benidorm quickly, taxis are simple and convenient. This makes the hotel a good choice for travellers who want both relaxation and access, without feeling tied to one particular style of holiday.

A Well-Balanced Benidorm Stay
What Mercure Benidorm does particularly well is offer contrast. Benidorm is known for its energy, entertainment and lively atmosphere, but this hotel gives guests somewhere more composed to experience it from. You can spend the morning by the pool, walk to the beach, explore the old town, head towards the strip in the evening, and still return to a setting that feels calm and considered.
Overall, Mercure Benidorm delivered a well-balanced and enjoyable stay. Its modern design, peaceful but atmospheric pool area, comfortable rooms, convenient poolside food service and accessible location all work together effectively. As a hidden oasis, it succeeds because it offers a quieter, more stylish side of Benidorm without taking guests away from the destination’s main attractions.

Five Tips For Enjoying A Stay At Mercure Benidorm
1. Set Aside A Proper Pool Day
The pool area is one of the hotel’s strongest features, so it is worth giving it more than a quick visit. With greenery, loungers and a relaxed layout, it forms the heart of the hotel’s hidden-oasis atmosphere. Poolside food delivery makes it easier to settle in for a slow afternoon, while occasional saxophone players, DJs and yoga sessions add energy without taking away from the calm.
2. Walk To Poniente Beach
Poniente Beach is ideal for a more relaxed coastal walk and gives visitors a different side of Benidorm. The promenade is wide, open and easy to enjoy at a slower pace, particularly in the morning or early evening when the temperature is softer. It works well before breakfast, after time by the pool or as a quieter sunset moment away from the busier parts of town.
3. Spend Time In The Old Town
Benidorm’s old town is well worth exploring, especially for visitors who want to see a more traditional side of the destination. Its narrow streets, local bars, small shops and viewpoints bring character and provide a pleasant contrast to the beach and nightlife areas. It is the kind of place where you can wander without too much of a plan.
4. Enjoy The Main Resort Area At Your Own Pace
One of the benefits of staying at Mercure Benidorm is that the livelier side of the resort remains within reach without being directly on the doorstep. The main area and strip can be reached by a leisurely walk or short taxi ride, making it easy to dip into the bars and entertainment before returning to the calmer atmosphere of the hotel.
5. Experience The Benidorm Strip For One Night
Even if the appeal of Mercure Benidorm is its calmer setting, it is worth experiencing the Benidorm strip at least once. The bars are full of energy, with hen parties, stag groups and holidaymakers of different ages creating the lively atmosphere the resort is known for. It is not necessarily somewhere I would recommend taking children in the evening, but for adults wanting to see the full Benidorm experience, one night out gives a clear sense of the town’s bigger, brighter personality.
