The opening of Sofitel Riyadh Hotel and Convention Centre marks a significant moment for the French luxury hospitality brand as it establishes its first presence in the Saudi capital. Operated by Accor, the property introduces Sofitel’s design-led approach to one of the Middle East’s fastest-evolving urban centres.
Located in the Ar Rahmaniyyah neighbourhood, the hotel has been conceived as both a hospitality destination and a major business and events venue. With 388 rooms and suites and the largest luxury hotel convention centre in Riyadh, the opening aligns with Saudi Arabia’s wider ambitions to expand its international profile for commerce, culture and large-scale events.
The property is positioned approximately 35 minutes from King Khalid International Airport and sits within reach of several of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, including Kingdom Centre Tower, Kingdom Centre Mall and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Diriyah.
Architecture rooted in place
Architecturally, the building draws on references to local geography and heritage. Its form is inspired by desert dunes and by the first Arabic letter of King Abdullah’s name, a symbolic gesture intended to connect the contemporary development with the Kingdom’s cultural lineage.
This dialogue between global brand identity and local context continues throughout the interior spaces. Sofitel’s established design language, informed by French elegance and craftsmanship, is layered with regional influences to create an environment that reflects both international luxury and Saudi identity.
Ritual, design and brand identit
A defining feature of the Sofitel experience is its emphasis on ritual, most notably the Sofitel Candle Ritual. Inspired by the daily lighting of Parisian streets during the reign of Louis XIV, the ritual is intended to evoke a sense of transition and refinement, reinforcing the brand’s heritage while framing the guest experience in Riyadh.
Together with considered material choices and spatial planning, these elements are used to create what Sofitel describes as a dialogue between cultures, where French art de vivre is present but not dominant.
A major new destination for events
At the heart of the development is the Princess Nouf International Convention Centre, described as the largest luxury hotel convention centre in Riyadh. Offering nearly 8,500 sq m of flexible event space, the venue includes a grand ballroom, multiple breakout rooms and integrated event technology.
With the capacity to host up to 4,000 guests, the convention centre has been designed to accommodate international conferences, exhibitions and large-scale social events, reinforcing Riyadh’s growing role as a regional hub for business tourism.
Culinary and social spaces
Food and beverage plays a central role within the hotel, with a collection of venues that reflect both regional and international influences. These include Thu-rya, presenting a contemporary interpretation of Lebanese cuisine, and Zeline, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant serving international dishes.
La Matinée offers a tea lounge environment, while Toi et Moi introduces a French Mediterranean brasserie concept. La Haute Croissanterie, Sofitel’s signature pastry experience, features French viennoiseries served throughout the day. Monsieur Boisé, a cigar lounge, is scheduled to open shortly.
Wellness and retreat
Wellness facilities are anchored by Sofitel Spa, developed in partnership with Clarins and set to open shortly. Designed with separate facilities for men and women, the spa includes two indoor pools, vitality pools, a Hammam, thermal areas and 12 treatment rooms.
As the first Clarins Spa in Riyadh, the facility introduces a curated menu overseen by Spa and Wellness Director Mohamed Mahdawi, combining face and body treatments with Hammam and body rituals developed in collaboration with Charme d’Orient.
A strategic step for the brand
The Riyadh opening forms part of a broader period of transformation for Sofitel, which is currently undergoing a global rejuvenation programme. A significant portion of the brand’s existing portfolio has been renovated, with further openings planned internationally.
“We are thrilled to welcome guests to our hotel . Riyadh is a vibrant metropolis at the forefront of cultural and economic transformation, and the hotel offers a front-row seat to this remarkable evolution. Combining Sofitel’s hallmark French zest with Riyadh’s rich traditions, we aim to provide guests with a space that is both inspiring and luxurious.”
Fadeel G. Wehbe, Managing Director of Sofitel Riyadh Hotel and Convention Centre
“The Middle East is a strategic region for Sofitel, with Saudi Arabia at the heart of our development momentum. Sofitel Riyadh Convention Centre stands as a bold expression of our brand’s renewal and global vision, and as our first address in the capital, it perfectly embodies a culturally rooted, emotionally engaging luxury where French art de vivre meets the vibrant spirit of Riyadh. Today, Sofitel operates three hotels in the Kingdom – in Madinah, Al Khobar and Riyadh – with two additional properties in the pipeline, including Sofitel Jabal Omar Makkah, set to become the largest Sofitel in the world. This growing footprint reflects our long-term confidence in Saudi Arabia and its role as a destination where culture, luxury, and international mobility converge.”

Alongside its physical development, Sofitel continues its engagement with social and cultural initiatives through the King Abdullah Humanitarian Foundation, supporting education, empowerment and cultural programmes.
With its combination of large-scale event infrastructure, hospitality facilities and location within a rapidly transforming city, Sofitel Riyadh Hotel and Convention Centre represents a new chapter for the brand in Saudi Arabia’s capital.
