Equinox Hotels has launched a new collaboration with White Mirror to deliver specialised in room rituals aimed at enhancing sleep and morning routines for guests. These guided experiences include both audio and audio visual breath work designed to align with the body’s natural circadian rhythms. Incorporating red and orange lighting, chosen for their minimal disruption to melatonin production, the rituals offer a sensory approach to rest and recovery.

White Mirror, which focuses on blending science, technology, arts and design, has developed these rituals to help guests transition more smoothly between sleep and wakefulness. The studio integrates advanced sensory technology and research driven content to craft immersive environments promoting relaxation and rejuvenation. Already responsible for soundscapes used by leading mindfulness and sleep platforms, White Mirror’s solutions are designed to improve sleep quality at scale.

As part of the collaboration, White Mirror worked alongside Dr Matthew Walker, a leading authority in sleep science, to inform and refine the sleep enhancing innovations. Dr Walker’s input helped shape the content of the Equinox Sleep Lab, offering scientific support for the technologies and methods employed. Tom Middleton, Co Founder of White Mirror, stated, “Our shared mission is to deliver rituals that facilitate deeper, more restorative sleep and smooth transitions from sleep to wakefulness, addressing the global sleep problem that affects a third of adults.”

The new Sleep Lab features include a gentle wake up soundscape intended to replace traditional alarm tones with a more gradual and less disruptive auditory experience. This ritual, developed using evidence based methods and feedback from Dr Walker, is designed to leave guests feeling more alert and energised upon waking.

Chris Norton, Chief Executive Officer of Equinox Hotels, commented on the initiative, “The Sleep Lab is not just an evolution of our commitment to sleep, it is the future of high performance regeneration. We have designed a first of its kind experience that merges science and luxury, enabling our guests to achieve peak recovery and performance through optimised sleep.”

Katie Tardif, Brand Director of Equinox Hotels, also emphasised the innovation behind the collaboration, stating, “It has been a pleasure to work with White Mirror on the development of the Sleep Lab. Their expertise in sensory health and immersive audio and visual content has helped bring our vision to life. The Sleep Lab represents the next frontier in high performance health. By blending cutting edge science with unparalleled luxury, we have created a groundbreaking experiment and experience that elevates recovery and maximises sleep for optimal performance.”

Dr Walker underscored the importance of bringing science into hospitality, stating, “Our objective is to bring the rigour of sleep science into the hospitality space, offering an experience that is not only luxurious but also scientifically validated. Sleep is the foundation of human performance, and the Sleep Lab offers guests an unparalleled opportunity to enhance their health, cognition, and overall wellbeing.”

The collaboration between Equinox Hotels and White Mirror introduces a distinctive approach to guest wellness by applying sensory science and sleep research in a luxury setting. Through guided rituals, adaptive lighting and sound, and expert consultation, the Sleep Lab aims to redefine the in room experience for travellers seeking restorative rest.
