Set within the peaceful countryside of Lancashire, Twin Lakes Country Club near Carnforth offers the perfect setting for a family escape. This modern holiday destination combines high-quality accommodation with beautiful surroundings, and offers the opportunity to explore some of the North West’s most captivating spots. Our recent four-night stay in a spacious three-bedroom, pet-free lodge provided everything we needed for a refreshing break away from the usual routine.

Stylish Lodges with Space to Unwind

Our accommodation was modern, clean and thoughtfully laid out. The lodge had three well-sized bedrooms and three bathrooms, two of which were en suite. This setup gave our family plenty of space to settle in comfortably, and allowed everyone a bit of independence. The bedroom upstairs offered an extra level of privacy, which was very welcome during a shared stay.

The open plan living and kitchen area was light-filled and spacious, making it ideal for cooking, dining and relaxing together in the evenings. The kitchen came fully equipped with everything we needed for self-catering, while the living room area was a cosy place to unwind after busy days out.

Large windows offered stunning views of the lake right outside, and the modern furnishings gave the whole space a welcoming and high-end feel without ever feeling overdone. Everything felt freshly maintained and designed with care.

Lakeside Views and Evenings in the Hot Tub

One of the real highlights of our stay was the outdoor decking area with a private hot tub. From this spot, we could enjoy uninterrupted views over the water. Most evenings ended here with a glass of Prosecco, relaxing as the sun began to set across the lake. It was a wonderful way to round off the day and enjoy some time as a family.

Although there is a road nearby, we barely noticed it. The lodge and its surroundings felt peaceful and secluded, making it easy to switch off and simply enjoy the natural setting. It was quiet enough to feel like a genuine retreat, with the lake creating a gentle atmosphere throughout the day.

Family Activities on Site

Twin Lakes has a lovely atmosphere for families. Our children were particularly delighted by the ducks that regularly gathered near the water’s edge. Feeding them became a favourite part of our mornings and gave the kids something simple and joyful to look forward to.

There is also a small man-made sandy beach next to the lake, which is perfect for younger children. Ours enjoyed building sandcastles and paddling in the shallow water. A compact playground nearby offered an extra space for the children to burn off energy while we sat nearby with a coffee.

These thoughtful family features made the site feel inclusive and friendly. They brought a sense of fun to the overall peaceful environment and helped us create lots of happy memories.

Warm Welcome and High Standards

On arrival, we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. Staff were helpful and seemed genuinely invested in ensuring guests had a pleasant stay. From the smooth check-in to the clean, well-maintained lodge, everything reflected a high standard of service.

The site is clearly evolving, with signs of future development visible in certain areas. It is encouraging to see that Twin Lakes is continuing to invest in its facilities. During our stay, these works did not interfere with the experience at all.

While this is not a budget holiday option, the cost reflects the quality of what is provided. You get excellent accommodation, beautiful surroundings and a relaxing atmosphere that makes it feel like a special getaway.

Practical Considerations

There are no on-site facilities such as a restaurant, bar or shop, so it is worth arriving with a few essentials. We brought enough for the first evening and then made the short drive into nearby Carnforth, where there are several supermarkets and takeaway options. This worked perfectly for us and allowed us to stock the lodge comfortably for the remainder of our stay.

Exploring the Area

One of the real advantages of Twin Lakes is its location. It serves as a great base for exploring some of the most scenic and enjoyable parts of northern England.

Our first trip took us to the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, which is around twenty minutes away by car. This circular walk stretches just over four miles and follows a route through woodlands, over bridges and past several spectacular waterfalls. Some parts of the trail involve steps and uneven ground, but with proper footwear, it is suitable for most families. The scenery is simply stunning, and our children loved the sense of adventure as we followed the path through natural rock formations and alongside tumbling rivers.

We also spent a day in Blackpool, which offers a completely different experience but was a lot of fun. The highlight there was a visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, where we enjoyed everything from classic wooden rollercoasters to fairground games and snack stalls. The park caters to a wide range of ages, so everyone found something they enjoyed. From the nostalgic atmosphere of the promenade to the thrill rides and arcades, it was a lively day out that added a sense of excitement to the holiday.

A wetter afternoon led us to Lake Windermere, just under an hour away by car. Despite the grey skies, the landscape was still breathtaking. We ended the day with a sunset lake cruise, which turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our holiday. The boat ride offered peaceful views of the surrounding fells and lakeside towns, and as the weather cleared slightly, the colours reflecting off the water were beautiful. Windermere also offers plenty of cosy cafés and independent shops, making it a great option even when the weather is less than perfect.

On our final day, we visited Morecambe, which pleasantly surprised us. The town felt well cared for, especially along the seafront where efforts have clearly been made to enhance the promenade. Although the weather was not ideal, there was still a friendly buzz to the place. We could easily imagine it being full of life on a warm summer’s day, with families enjoying the beach, ice cream stands and views across the bay.
