Bamboo Mat is expanding from Stratford with a larger, two-floor restaurant at Wood Wharf, bringing its Japanese-Peruvian menu and an 82-cover dining space to Canary Wharf.
Bamboo Mat is set to open a second, larger restaurant at Wood Wharf in Canary Wharf in September 2026, expanding its Japanese-Peruvian dining offer following the opening of its Stratford site.
A Two-Floor Restaurant At Wood Wharf
The 364 sq metre restaurant will accommodate 82 covers across two floors at Wood Wharf. A raw bar and cocktail bar will occupy the ground floor, while the first floor will contain the robata, sushi and hot-kitchen operations.
The interiors have been designed around the contrast between Japanese precision and Peruvian energy. Natural wood, cement finishes, warm lighting, muted materials and varied textures will be used to create a progression through the two-floor space.
Japanese And Peruvian Influences
Bamboo Mat first opened in London in 2022. Food critic Grace Dent described its cooking as ‘Plates of Peruvian Joy’.
The Canary Wharf menu is expected to include sushi alongside interpretations of Japanese and Peruvian dishes, including teriyaki, ceviche and tiradito. These will be accompanied by a cocktail list drawing on Asian and Peruvian flavours.
“Bamboo Mat Canary Wharf has been a long time in the making and we’re excited to unveil a completely unique design and larger site for our celebrated Nikkei offering. We’ve been watching Canary Wharf turn into a real foodie destination over the last few years, and we can’t wait to bring a new dimension to its increasingly diverse restaurant scene.”
