Minecraft fans will be able to stay overnight inside a world inspired by the game when a new Minecraft-themed hotel opens at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in 2027.

Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios have revealed Minecraft World Hotel as the latest part of the £50 million Minecraft World development, extending the new theme park land beyond rides and attractions into accommodation, food and drink.

Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios have announced the world’s first Minecraft hotel, Minecraft World Hotel.

The hotel is planned across four floors with 69 rooms — 20 premium and 49 standard — drawing on Minecraft’s biomes, characters, mobs, colours and distinctive block-based visual language.

For families and fans, the concept is intended to make the overnight stay part of the attraction itself rather than simply somewhere to sleep after a day in the park.

Guests are expected to encounter block-style trees and animals around the check-in area, Nether Portal-inspired lifts and corridors designed to resemble mine tunnels.

Bedrooms will continue the theme through Minecraft blocks, items, mobs, textures and colours, while the food and beverage offer will include an underwater-themed restaurant inspired by the game’s ocean biomes and a potions bar taking cues from the Woodland Mansion.

The announcement marks a significant extension of Minecraft World, which Merlin and Mojang first confirmed earlier in 2026. The development is scheduled to open at Chessington in Greater London during 2027 and represents a £50 million investment.

For Merlin, adding overnight accommodation creates a broader resort proposition around one of gaming’s most recognisable franchises. Rather than limiting the intellectual property to rides and merchandise, the development carries Minecraft through accommodation, dining, retail and the wider guest journey.

That approach also reflects the continued movement of gaming brands into physical experiences. Minecraft has already expanded beyond the screen through attractions including Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue in London, while the Chessington project takes that crossover into a permanent resort environment.

Escape The Nether Named As Minecraft Rollercoaster

Alongside the hotel announcement, Merlin and Mojang have confirmed the name of the new land’s headline rollercoaster.

Escape the Nether will be the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster and is planned to combine indoor and outdoor sections.

According to the plans, riders will travel through dark mine environments before emerging through a Nether portal into the Overworld section of Minecraft.

Minecraft World itself will combine rides with interactive experiences, themed dining, retail and block-built environments inspired by familiar locations, mobs and objects from the game.

The wider development was first announced in March 2026, when Merlin and Mojang confirmed that the new land would open in 2027. Merlin described it as one of its most ambitious recent theme park developments and said the project was being created with Mojang to retain the visual identity and character of Minecraft.

For Chessington, the combination of a major themed land and dedicated hotel broadens the development from a day-visit attraction into a more complete short-break proposition. For visitors, it means the Minecraft theme will continue beyond the rides into bedrooms, restaurants and communal spaces.

“Bringing Minecraft into an entirely new medium has been a fascinating creative challenge. We have thought about everything from the scale of the blocks to how mobs and biomes come to life in the real world. Our goal is to create an experience that feels authentically Minecraft and gives guests the chance to experience the game in an entirely new way.”
