Hotel Gotham in Manchester is to relaunch as The Rex, marking a repositioning of the city-centre property with updated interiors and a renewed focus on private members’ hospitality.
Leonardo Limited Edition UK Hotels has announced the rebranding of Hotel Gotham in Manchester as The Rex, marking a repositioning of the city-centre property. The transition will take effect from 23 April, with the 60-room hotel entering a new phase as a luxury boutique hotel and private members’ retreat.
Located on King Street, the seven-storey property has long been associated with Manchester’s historic commercial and social life. The rebrand retains the building’s architectural character while introducing a more contemporary identity, intended to reflect evolving guest expectations while maintaining continuity with its established offer.
“While our name has evolved, the hotel our guests know and love remains very much the same. This rebrand is an expressive upgrade, retaining the character, comfort, and connection people cherish, while introducing a more modern, sophisticated expression of who we are today. It reflects our commitment to our guests, our team, and the community we’re proud to be part of, while honouring the history that has shaped us.”
Jenny Oh, General Manager of The Rex
Heritage-Led Repositioning
The hotel occupies a former bank building, a heritage that continues to inform the design narrative. Original features linked to its financial past, including references to vaults and safety deposit boxes, have been retained and reinterpreted within an Art Deco-influenced scheme that combines historic detailing with updated finishes.
Private Members’ Club And Events Offer
A central component of the repositioning is Reserve, the hotel’s private members’ club, located on the seventh floor. Accessed through vault-style doors, the space includes three rooftop terraces with views across the city, alongside areas designed for both daytime use and evening events.
Food and drink provision centres on small plates and a curated drinks list, with the space positioned as a flexible environment for meetings, social gatherings and private functions. Additional event space is provided by Treasury, a concealed venue within the building that supports the hotel’s focus on discreet hospitality and private use.
Interior Updates And Ongoing Offer
The rebrand also includes updates to the hotel’s restaurant and bar, where new furniture and refinements to materials and finishes have been introduced. These changes aim to maintain the property’s established identity while creating a more cohesive and contemporary interior environment.
Existing offers, including afternoon tea, tasting menus, live entertainment and private dining, will continue as part of the refreshed proposition.
The Rex is positioned as a combined hotel and members’ destination, with an emphasis on privacy, service and spatial variety, ranging from rooftop terraces to lower-ground rooms. Nightly rates are set to start from £179 on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
