Scheduled to open on the first floor of the centre at the end of May (Covid-19 permitting), the adventure bar offers the chance to mix with friends and family for great food and drink, while challenging them to fun and crazy games such as Bavarian axe throwing, electric dartscrazy golf and beer pong.

The entrepreneurs behind Boom: Battle Bar see Eastbourne as the perfect town for its new concept. Elliott Shuttleworth, Founder and CEO, said the site at The Beacon, coupled with the enthusiasm of the local community helped seal the deal.

“I fell in love with the site on the first floor of the shopping centre, near the cinema,” Elliott explained. “It is the perfect size to house all our activities and sits in the heart of the town. I was bowled over by the welcoming nature of the people here and I know this will be a perfect fit for us.”

And while axe throwing is not your typical pub game, the safety and security of participants and customers is paramount.

“I completely see that axe throwing might raise an eyebrow, but we have strict rules around participation,” Elliott said. “We ensure that no customer is allowed to consume alcohol prior to taking part, there is a full safety run down, and a trained member of the team will oversee the activity at all times.” There is a caged exterior around the axe lanes to keep everybody safe.

Other outlets for your competitive socialising include: Electric darts – interactive twist, mini games and extras; crazier golf – crazy golf with a zest of madness, including wild challenges for each hole, and in some cases, you don’t even need a putter; shuffleboards and beer pong. New games will be unveiled throughout the year.

Andrew Rice, Fund Manager at Legal & General that owns The Beacon, said: “This is a new and exciting concept for Eastbourne that guarantees a great, fun, night out and is just what the town needs as we come out of lockdown.”

Boom: Battle Bar has already proved a success at its first two sites in Norwich and Cardiff. The decision to open in Eastbourne is part of a plan to make the concept accessible across the country. A further 12 bars are planned over the next couple of years.

The Eastbourne venue is being prepared, ready for a grand opening planned for the end of May, lockdown rules permitting.
