Mr Bao Group has announced the formalisation of its operations under a new name, 6 of 1, as it expands beyond its Taiwanese restaurant origins. The move reflects a broader vision for the company, which co-founders Frank Yeung and Abhinav Malde have nurtured since opening their first restaurant, Mr Bao, in Peckham in 2016.

The group’s transformation follows the successful launch of several restaurants, including Daddy Bao in 2018, Master Bao in Westfield London (2019) and Stratford City (2024). Most recently, the duo opened Good Measure in September 2024, marking a significant departure from their signature bao-based menus. This shift signals their intention to explore new culinary and hospitality ventures.

Explaining the rationale behind this evolution, co-founder Abhinav Malde said, “For a long time, Frank and I thought we might just focus on opening more Taiwanese restaurants and growing our bao offering but we have such a strong team now, with so many varied interests and skills, we have been inspired to push ourselves in a new direction. This has already happened with Good Measure, driven by the talent of our Daddy Bao bar team, and this is only just the beginning.”

The name ‘6 of 1’ embodies the group’s approach to hospitality innovation, reflecting the diversity of their concepts and aspirations to challenge the status quo within the London dining scene. Speaking about the inspiration for the rebranding, co-founder Frank Yeung noted, “This feels like a really exciting next step for our company. We’re enjoying travelling, researching and testing out new ideas that move away from bao and this is ultimately what has inspired the group name. The hospitality scene in London is so exciting right now and we want to be building a group for the future that can really compete with other names in the industry that we respect so much.”

The new direction highlights a focus on modern hospitality, which the team describes as more than just delivering quality food and beverages. Instead, their mission prioritises creating memorable guest experiences, ensuring that every visitor feels genuinely cared for. This ethos is driven by a team of passionate individuals who bring diverse skills and creativity to the table.

While Good Measure is the first step in this expansion, 6 of 1 has hinted at further projects under development, suggesting that more innovative concepts will emerge in the future. The founders’ commitment to exploring fresh ideas is rooted in their desire to remain competitive and relevant in London’s dynamic dining landscape.
