Fortnum & Mason has unveiled a new chapter for The Parlour, its Piccadilly destination for ice cream creations, savoury dishes and teas, following a redesign created in collaboration with British illustrator Jonathan Burton.

The Parlour launched its new look on 12 May, with Burton’s illustrations bringing colour, character and surreal detail to the first-floor restaurant. The collaboration transforms the space into an immersive setting that combines dining with illustration, with guests invited to experience the restaurant as a living artwork.

Jonathan Burton is known for detailed illustration that builds on existing narratives while introducing a playful and surreal edge. He has worked with heritage brands including Hermès and The Ritz Hotel, and has illustrated editions for The Folio Society. He has also previously designed the menu at 45 Jermyn St., Fortnum & Mason’s restaurant on Jermyn Street.

The redesigned Parlour features Burton’s signature designs across the space, blurring the boundaries between art and dining. After dining in The Parlour, or buying an ice cream to take away, customers are given a token to use at an installation adjacent to the restaurant, with the chance to win a discount on a future visit.

The refreshed menu focuses on classic dishes and nostalgic ice cream creations. Highlights include the Cherry Knickerbocker Glory, Banana Split and Black Forest Gâteau, alongside savoury dishes such as Scotch egg with piccalilli, prawn cocktail and the Parlour hot dog with caramelised onion. The restaurant will also continue to serve its regular ice cream flavours.

Drinks include the Gin and Tonic Float, Fortnum’s Royal Blend Tea and a selection of iced teas, including the Wellness tea.

Situated on the first floor of Fortnum & Mason’s Piccadilly flagship, The Parlour is inspired by traditional 1950s ice cream parlours. The restaurant continues to serve its signature selection of ice creams, savoury dishes and sweet dishes, including the Knickerbocker Glory, which Fortnum & Mason first introduced to the UK in 1955.

“With such a large scale I wanted to engage the diners with detail and storytelling. While the overall decoration will be immersive in its atmosphere, the work really rewards those who look closely. Large animals are alongside tiny ones and characters travel from one wall to another. The many bees for example have an end goal and then there’s the flying caterpillar swooping its way around the background.”

The redesign adds a new artistic layer to The Parlour’s established food and drink offer at the Piccadilly store.
