The Tawny has announced the expansion of its accommodation offering with new self-catering properties on the Basford Estate. This move continues the brand’s evolution into a destination for group stays and family holidays, complementing its established romantic retreats.
The new Bath House, part of The Tawny’s Fledglings collection of serviced holiday homes, is now open. Located on parkland within the Basford Estate, the Grade II listed property was built in the 19th century in a castle-inspired style. It features an outdoor heated pool with swim jet, sauna steam room, cold water immersion chill box, Big Green Egg BBQ, and extensive countryside views. Designed by Louise Platt Interiors, the house balances preserved historical features with bold interior choices, including rich colour palettes and a standout kitchen finished in Little Greene’s Córdoba and Foundry Green brick tiles.

Inside, the property offers five ensuite bedrooms, each distinct in style, and communal areas decorated in Farrow & Ball’s Treron tones. Guests can opt for a number of tailored experiences, including private yoga sessions, water aerobics, foraging excursions, and food-focused activities. A range of hampers is available, featuring themed contents such as breakfast options, barbecue favourites, Sunday roasts, and film night snacks.

Looking ahead, the estate is set to welcome the Owlets later in 2025. This development includes five individually designed cottages arranged around a shared courtyard, ranging from one to four bedrooms. The cottages aim to offer flexible accommodation for varying group sizes, and plans are underway for shared outdoor amenities and experiences to enhance guests’ stays.
The Tawny’s self-catering properties on the Basford Estate retain the brand’s attention to detail and service, providing guests with the independence of a holiday rental paired with access to hotel-style offerings. All properties, including both the Fledglings and the Owlets, utilise biomass energy sourced from the estate’s organic material, aligning with a broader sustainability focus.
The Basford Estate is situated near the Consall Estate, home to the Wingspan Collection of treehouses, boathouses, and shepherd’s huts. The two locations are connected by a 10-minute drive or a 90-minute scenic walk through Staffordshire’s Churnet Valley. Both estates neighbour the RSPB Consall Woods Nature Park, and the area features a heritage steam railway, the River Churnet, and the Caldon Canal, making it attractive for nature and history enthusiasts.
Bookings for Bath House are now open, with rates starting at £1,000 per night and a minimum stay of two nights. The property can host up to ten guests. Full details on the Owlets cottages will be released closer to their winter 2025 launch.
