When it comes to British seaside breaks, Unity Beach in Brean offers a well-rounded family holiday with a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Set between five miles of golden sand and the gentle rise of the Somerset countryside, the resort has recently received a multi-million pound investment. It combines coastal charm with the convenience of a bustling, well-run site. It’s a place that feels cheerful and easy to enjoy, with just the right mix of activity and space to unwind.
We stayed for four nights as a family of four, with two children aged thirteen and nine. From the moment we arrived, tired from the drive and ready to settle in, the experience was smooth. Our two-bedroom lodge was spotlessly clean, simply furnished and practical. There was enough space to unwind, and thoughtful touches throughout made it feel like a proper base rather than just a place to sleep. After unpacking, we did what many families do and headed to the chip shop. Crispy chips and generous portions passed the first-night test without fuss.

What makes Unity Beach work so well is how easy it is to navigate. Everything is close by, whether it is the shop, the pool or a place to eat, which helps keep days relaxed. The site itself is secure, with ANPR entry and visible but friendly security around the busier venues, which added a level of reassurance. There are supermarkets, launderettes and even a dispenser offering chilled farm fresh milk, a simple touch that quickly became a favourite. For those looking for extra comfort, the gold and luxury lodges offer a step up with more space and the option of outdoor decking or hot tubs.
The beach lies just beyond the resort’s edge and it is a real highlight. Early in the day it is calm and open, perfect for a quiet walk or a paddle. Later, it becomes more lively but never overcrowded. It is a wide open beach with soft sand, and having it right on the doorstep was a real bonus.
Among the stand-out activities was Brean Splash. We booked a 90-minute session and easily filled the time. There are slides both inside and out, with something for every level of confidence and excitement. The outdoor pool was certainly brisk in May, but it added to the sense of fun. Indoors, the main pool was well maintained and offered space for families to enjoy themselves comfortably.
Entertainment is central to the Unity experience and the team were excellent throughout. From morning to night, they kept the resort feeling upbeat. Evening shows, game nights and discos were all delivered with genuine energy and enthusiasm. You could tell the team cared about creating a great experience for everyone watching.

When we wanted to sit down and enjoy a relaxed meal, the newly opened Wonky Donkey delivered. The food was reliably good, the service friendly and it doubled as an evening venue too, hosting live entertainment with a relaxed atmosphere. RJ’s was another hit, especially with the children, for its easy going diner meals and colourful mocktails. We could not resist regular visits to Sweet Treats either, particularly for the strawberries dipped in rich chocolate. We probably spent more there than we intended, but it became part of the holiday rhythm.
There is plenty to do just beyond the resort as well. Brean Theme Park is right next door and offers a good mix of traditional fairground rides and bigger attractions. It is ideal for families, especially with the choice between pay per ride or wristbands. We went more than once and the convenience of its location made that easy.
Brean Down, just a short distance away, offered a change of pace. Managed by the National Trust, it is a great spot to explore on foot. The walk to the top is steady but worth it, especially for the views across the water and the old fort that gives the headland its character.
Further afield, Cheddar Gorge was a great addition to our itinerary. We explored the caves, wandered through the gorge itself and climbed Jacob’s Ladder, 274 steps that gave both children a sense of pride once they reached the top. It was a day of fresh air, good walking and something a bit different to bring into the mix.
Throughout our stay, the resort struck the right tone. It did not feel overstructured or overly programmed, but everything we wanted was there. From crazy golf and arcades to interactive darts and evening shows, there was always something to dip into without needing to plan too far ahead.
Unity Beach sets out to bring the great British seaside holiday to life, and that is exactly what it achieves. With space to explore, entertainment to enjoy and comfort to return to, it creates the kind of experience that feels familiar yet refreshed. Whether under clear skies or British drizzle, it is a place where families can relax, reconnect and enjoy a break that truly has something for everyone.
