Glasgow Marriott Hotel has unveiled a new mural in its lobby, ‘Hello Glasgow’, celebrating the city’s landmarks, humour, creativity and character, and designed as a photo opportunity for guests.

The artwork was created by Glasgow-based designers Bell & Swift and Studio2C, who are also behind many of the Glasgow-inspired prints and artworks displayed around the four-star-deluxe hotel since its recent refurbishment, including pieces across its 303 bedrooms.

The mural brings together some of the city’s most recognisable sights, among them the Riverside Museum, the Finnieston Crane and the OVO Hydro, alongside the Duke of Wellington statue, complete with its traffic cone. It also nods to Glasgow’s graffiti and street-art scene, with thistles adding a distinctly Scottish touch.

One of its more playful details is a pair of oversized banana feet slippers, a tribute to the comedian Billy Connolly, who was born in Anderston, next door to the hotel. The piece is topped with a glowing neon ‘Hello Glasgow’ sign, making a backdrop for guests to take a selfie.

The installation reflects Glasgow Marriott Hotel’s aim of giving visitors a warm and distinctly Glaswegian welcome from the moment they arrive.

“We wanted to create something that feels unmistakably Glasgow; warm, colourful, creative and with a good sense of humour. The new ‘Hello Glasgow’ mural brings together some of the things that make this city so special, from its architecture, landmarks and visitor attractions to its art, characters and unmistakable personality.

It’s designed to be enjoyed and we hope our guests will have fun taking photographs in front of it, sharing their Glasgow memories and perhaps discovering some of the details they recognise.”

The mural is in the hotel’s lobby, where it gives guests another way to connect with the city, whether they are visiting Glasgow for the first time, returning, or simply looking for a memorable backdrop for a photograph.
