South Bank is the heart of London’s cultural district, home to national centres for arts, film and performance, as well as major attractions including The London Eye. The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square are all within a short walk or bike ride from the site.

All materials used in the building of Stow-Away: South Bank have been chosen to support the land, the environment and the ecosystem within the area. The 26 shipping containers that make up the building have been fitted throughout with initiatives, all designed to have a positive environmental impact.

The roof has solar panels which generate electricity for the site and transfer any excess electricity back into the national grid. The Samsung air conditioning and hydro units recycle and recirculate energy that reuses excess heat from the air conditioning system into the hot water, helping to reduce overall energy consumption. The rooms themselves are lined with eco-friendly timber cladding.

All the waste from the hotel and the on-site restaurant is recycled – such as plastic, glass and paper – working with First Mile charity who are leading the way in this field. Recycling bins are placed in all the rooms to make it easier for guests to separate their waste.

Finally, to minimise the use of plastic, large refillable bottles of shampoo and shower gel are provided in each bathroom.

Stow-Away is about good design and the rooms are testament to this. Designed to be micro apartments, rooms have all the facilities for guests to make a home away from home. Each studio space is used with efficiency in mind, whilst maintaining a warm, welcoming and elegant feel with simple but luxurious touches including ultra comfort HypnosTM mattresses approved by the Queen, marble tiles and Molton Brown toiletries.

The interior walls of the containers have been clad with finely graded plywood giving a warmth of texture. The herringbone flooring creates a longer perspective from the hallway and the marble tiled bathroom exudes a sense of luxury.

The efficient kitchenette design allows for functionality while saving valuable space. The super king size bed allows ample space for sleeping one way and TV watching another way. Each studio is fitted with a black out blind to ensure a great night’s sleep alongside a smart TV, complimentary Wi-Fi and a fully equipped kitchenette.

As part of their environmental commitment, fresh linens and towels are provided upon request, but the team actively encourages re-use to assist their efforts to maintain an environmentally sustainable business.

Located on the ground floor, Unwined is a concept designed to take the ‘snob’ out of wine, exploring vineyards from all around the world and showcasing unique bottles at accessible prices. For the food, guest chefs are invited to take residency in the kitchen and create delicious dishes while the Unwined team finds the perfect wine pairing by the glass or bottle.

Based just minutes walk away from Waterloo station, Stow-Away: South Bank is the perfect location to explore the city. With iconic attractions such as the Tate Modern, National Theatre, London Eye and Shakespeare’s Globe all within walking distance, guests only have to cross the picturesque Westminster bridge to visit the likes of Big Ben, Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Key transport links to and from Waterloo can take guests to the financial district around Bank station and provide direct access to London’s airports.
