CoDE Concepts has received planning approval for a new capsule hotel in Elephant & Castle, London. The development will include 568 capsule pods, a rooftop co-working lounge and gym, and space for a local arts charity. The project is designed to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” rating, incorporating sustainability features throughout its design and construction.

Capsule hotel to open in Elephant & Castle

Situated within walking distance of Elephant & Castle station in Zone 1, the hotel will offer a compact accommodation model aimed at travellers looking for affordable, centrally located stays. The site will include co-working facilities and wellness amenities, alongside an initiative to provide space for a local arts organisation on the first floor.

Andrew Landsburgh, founder and CEO of CoDE Concepts, described the planning approval as an important step for the company’s expansion, stating, “We are incredibly excited to bring our innovative capsule hotel concept to London, offering travellers a stylish, affordable, and environmentally conscious accommodation option in the heart of the city. This project is more than just a hotel; it’s a community hub that will support local artists, foster collaboration in our co-working space, and promote wellness with our rooftop gym.”

Sustainability and environmental focus

The hotel is designed to meet BREEAM “Excellent” standards, which assess sustainability in areas such as energy efficiency, materials, and environmental impact. The project will incorporate measures aimed at reducing its carbon footprint, with a focus on responsible construction practices and energy-efficient systems.

Location and future development

Elephant & Castle has undergone significant redevelopment in recent years, with new transport links and residential and commercial projects shaping the area. The hotel’s proximity to major transport hubs will provide guests with easy access to London’s business districts and cultural attractions.

Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with an opening planned for 2027. The project marks CoDE Concepts’ expansion into London, adding to its existing portfolio of capsule accommodation offerings.
