W Algarve, the Marriott-owned luxury hotel on Portugal’s southern coast, has appointed Andrea Ciuccio as its new Executive Chef. In his new role, Ciuccio will oversee the hotel’s six dining venues—Papermoon, Vino by Papermoon, Market Kitchen, Wet Deck, In-Room Dining, and W Lounge—bringing a focus on innovation, seasonal ingredients, and sustainable practices.

Ciuccio’s culinary career spans multiple continents, having worked in some of the world’s most renowned restaurants. He began at Manta Restaurant in Australia before refining his expertise at Barcelona’s Monvínic Restaurant, known for its extensive wine cellar and communal dining experience. He later joined the Michelin-starred Alkimia Restaurant, where he honed his fine dining skills.

Beyond restaurant kitchens, Ciuccio has also worked as a consultant in Barcelona, helping to develop culinary concepts and operations for various establishments. Most recently, he played a key role at W Barcelona, where he mastered high-volume service while maintaining elevated culinary standards. His experience has prepared him to take charge at W Algarve, where he aims to redefine its gastronomic landscape with precision and creativity.

Reflecting on his appointment, Ciuccio stated:

“I’m looking forward to embarking on this new venture and hope to continue highlighting W Algarve’s top-tier culinary offering while incorporating the incredible range of products available in the Algarve region. Respecting the seasonality of produce is a key priority for me, alongside maintaining sustainable practices each step of the way, especially in a property like ours, surrounded by such a wonderfully wild environment.”

Christian Humbert, General Manager at W Algarve, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, saying:

“We’re delighted to welcome Andrea Ciuccio into the fold as our new Executive Chef. His vast prestigious experience coupled with his commitment to seasonality and sustainability is met with great enthusiasm across our esteemed kitchens as we continue to innovate gastronomy in the Algarve.”

The resort offers six distinctive dining experiences. Vino by Papermoon combines a relaxed wine bar setting with a curated selection of Portuguese and international wines. It features a crudo bar that highlights fresh ingredients from both land and sea.

Market Kitchen embraces a neighbourhood atmosphere, serving southern Portuguese cuisine with a modern twist. Its menu, shaped by seasonal produce, includes farm-fresh and ocean-inspired dishes, complemented by an extensive cocktail selection.

Paper Moon provides panoramic ocean views and an elegant setting for authentic Italian cuisine. The restaurant is the Mediterranean sister to the renowned Paper Moon Giardino in Milan.

At the heart of the resort, W Lounge serves Portuguese coffee, petiscos, and tapas throughout the day and into the evening, alongside creative cocktails and live entertainment.

For a more relaxed experience, Wet Deck offers poolside refreshments, while AIR provides a clifftop venue with sweeping ocean views, live music, and an ideal setting for weddings and celebrations.

With Ciuccio at the helm, W Algarve aims to enhance its reputation for high-quality, sustainable dining, ensuring that each of its venues continues to offer unique and innovative culinary experiences.
