Longmartin Properties Ltd, a joint venture between Shaftesbury Capital and the Mercers’ Company, has announced that the Japanese temaki and sashimi concept, UKIYO 浮世 [u-key-yo], has launched its debut restaurant at The Yards, Covent Garden.

Located at 8 Slingsby Place in The Yards, UKIYO’s 1,636 sq ft, two-level restaurant is a unique interpretation of the typical Japanese eatery, boasting an ultra-minimal walk-in, sit-at-the-bar experience. Headed by chef Konstantin Tskhay, who has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, the menu focuses on Japanese hand rolls including King Crab California, Yellowtail, and Spicy Tuna, as well as a tasting menu, Nigiri & Sashimi, and desserts. It also offers an East-Asian inspired mixology menu, with various cocktails, whiskeys, wines, and spirits. The restaurant caters to 16 covers, with a basement space set to open in September, featuring an intimate dining area for 10-20 people.

Reinforcing The Yards’ position as a go-to dining destination within the heart of the West End, UKIYO joins a series of independent restaurants at the destination, alongside Gura Gura, the innovative pan-Asian concept, Lahpet, one of London’s only Burmese restaurants, and established names such as Dishoom, and Le Bab.

The team at UKIYO commented: “We are delighted to have launched our debut UKIYO concept within The Yards, Covent Garden, and bring our Japanese hand rolls to the West End. The destination offers us the perfect location and space to open our first-ever site, and it is brilliant to have laid down roots within such an exciting dining hub in one of London’s most iconic areas.”

On behalf of Longmartin Properties Ltd, Abi Labbett, Asset Manager at CBRE, said: “UKIYO’s selection of The Yards for its debut UK site further strengthens our position as one of the finest day-to-night F&B offerings in the capital. The brand adds another highly exciting addition to our varied selection of restaurants, celebrating an assortment of cuisines from around the globe, and we are sure shoppers, residents, and workers alike will highly enjoy UKIYO’s authentic Japanese hand rolls.”

This opening follows the recent pop-up, PRELUDE at The Yards, which saw the team behind acclaimed cocktail bars Oriole, Nightjar, and Bar Swift, bring a three-month pop-up restaurant, bar, and innovation space to the destination. PRELUDE by Oriole paved the way for the second iteration of the award-winning speakeasy, Oriole, which will reopen in a permanent location in The Yards, Covent Garden later this summer.
