Patina Hotels & Resorts has opened its first urban property, Patina Osaka, introducing a new concept in luxury hospitality that centres on wellness, creative collaboration, and Japanese cultural awareness. The 20-storey hotel is positioned between Osaka Castle and Naniwanomiya Park, and offers guests 221 rooms and suites, five dining venues, and a 1,400-square-metre wellness centre.
The launch of Patina Osaka marks an expansion for the brand under the Capella Hotel Group, following its earlier resort opening in the Maldives. This new location blends transformative experiences with technological wellness innovations, establishing a modern retreat in the heart of the city.

Cristiano Rinaldi, President of Capella Hotel Group, said:
“The opening of Patina Osaka marks a significant milestone in our journey to transform luxury hospitality through mindful experiences and creative innovation. As our first urban Patina and second destination following the success of Patina Maldives, we are bringing a fresh perspective to Japan’s hospitality landscape while honouring the rich cultural narrative of Osaka.”

The hotel’s design was realised by Jun Mitsui & Associates Architects and interior design studio Strickland. It is rooted in the Japanese concept of kisetsukan (seasonal awareness), integrating design references from Osaka Castle, such as water motifs and copper elements. Guest rooms feature expansive views and natural wood finishes that reflect Japan’s shifting seasons.

Patina Osaka differentiates itself through its commitment to wellness. The Patina Spa includes hyperbaric oxygen and hydrogen therapies, cryotherapy, far infrared saunas, LED light treatment and a full suite of traditional therapies—all part of a holistic health and relaxation strategy within a tranquil environment.

The hotel’s dining offer includes P72, a restaurant inspired by Japan’s 72 micro-seasons. Using sustainably sourced ingredients, P72 presents a menu rooted in local agricultural rhythms and culinary heritage. The space includes an edible botanical garden and a 52-metre art installation constructed from reclaimed wood sourced from Osaka’s old factories.

Among the hotel’s creative highlights is The Listening Room by OJAS, a collaboration with audio designer Devon Turnbull. This dedicated audiophile venue features hand-built speaker systems and a curated vinyl archive, offering guests a refined sound experience that aligns with the hotel’s broader sensory engagement approach.
Japanese artist Verdy contributes to the project as Creative Partner, curating exclusive design elements and merchandise that reflect Osaka’s cultural energy and contemporary identity.

Ellen Franke, General Manager of Patina Osaka, said:
“At Patina Osaka, we’ve brought together passionate talents from across Japan to create meaningful experiences for our guests. Our team of dedicated Patina Essentialists embody our Patina spirit and the authentic hospitality traditions that Japan is known for, uniquely introducing fresh perspectives that define the Patina experience.”

The hotel also introduces its Perpetual Journey concept, encouraging guests to engage in self-discovery and deeper connections through curated experiences. Programmes such as design immersion tours and daily soundscape sessions are designed to foster personal growth and reflection, aligning with the brand’s approach to conscious hospitality.
Patina Osaka arrives at a time of increasing interest in Japanese tourism, coinciding with preparations for the Kansai World Expo and the country’s long-term goal of reaching 60 million international visitors annually. The hotel provides a new benchmark for urban luxury rooted in cultural sensitivity and innovative wellness.
