Queensgate Peterborough has announced that ODEON Cinemas will be the new anchor of the scheme’s £60m leisure extension, opening an eight-screen cinema later this year. It marks a regional debut for the operator, as its first in Cambridgeshire, and reaffirms Queensgate’s position as a top UK shopping centre, focused on delivering a well-rounded day-to-night experience for its visitors.
Occupying approximately 27,500 sq ft on Queensgate’s third floor, ODEON will deliver eight large screens, including IMAX, and has been designed with a fully immersive experience in mind. Boasting state-of-the-art technology powered by Dolby, ODEON at Queensgate will offer more than 600 luxury seats, as well as an extensive food and beverage offer for customers to enjoy before, during, or after their cinema experience.
ODEON Cinemas joins Puttstars, the innovative indoor mini-golf brand, within the brand-new leisure extension, and also sits alongside a plethora of retail and F&B outlets, such as H&M, Primark, Office, Tap & Tandoor, and Turtle Bay.
Ed Ginn, Director of Investment Management at Invesco Real Estate, commented: “The purpose of our new leisure extension has always been to deliver a complete experience for the community of Peterborough, and ODEON Cinemas will be a fantastic component of the space. We have invested a significant amount in ensuring this extension meets visitor expectations and enhances the overall visit to Queensgate, and this new anchor will help drive that day-to-night offer and reinforce the destination’s appeal as a top UK shopping centre.”
Suzie Welch, Managing Director at ODEON UKI, also said: “We are delighted to be making our regional debut in Peterborough and form a key part of Queensgate’s brand-new leisure space. We are looking forward to delivering an unmatched cinema experience for visitors and creating memorable experiences, complemented by an array of retail and F&B on offer within the scheme.”
Cllr Mohammed Farooq, Leader of Peterborough City Council, added: “We’re delighted to have confirmation of Odeon coming to Peterborough. Working alongside Queensgate, we’ve been committed to making this happen. Having a new state-of-the-art cinema in the city centre will help enhance the city’s appeal and increase footfall. There is so much to look forward to in Peterborough, with many exciting projects in the pipeline.”
This announcement follows the news that Frasers Group will be opening a Frasers and Sports Direct at the centre, occupying the former John Lewis space. These stores will create compelling retail destinations within Queensgate, totalling 92,500 sq ft.
