Hyde London City has officially opened its doors, marking the debut of the Hyde hotel brand in the UK. This new hotel, located in Farringdon, breathes new life into the Grade II-listed Spiers & Pond building, a remarkable 19th-century structure that has now been revitalised with Hyde’s signature energy and style. The hotel’s launch follows recent openings by the Hyde brand in Ibiza and Bodrum, further expanding its footprint in Europe.
The Hyde London City spans seven stories and features 111 guest rooms, each designed to evoke a sense of exploration while paying homage to the architectural heritage of the building, which was originally constructed in 1874. The hotel’s design has been crafted by London-based specialists Studio Moren, who have infused the space with references to Charles Darwin’s seminal works and the kaleidoscope’s discovery, bringing a dynamic and intriguing atmosphere to the interiors. Ed Murray, Associate at Studio Moren, commented, “We were appointed as specialist hotel architects and interior designers to design the project inside and out. We have embraced the location within the City of London while also exploring the Victorian history that would have inspired the building’s original designers.”
As one of 15 brands under Ennismore’s lifestyle and resorts collective, Hyde embodies the free-spirited essence of a festival, which is reflected throughout the hotel. From surf poncho-inspired dressing gowns to comfortable sliders, the brand’s unique touches ensure that every stay is memorable. The hotel’s standout accommodation, the Headliner Suite, is located in the eaves of the building and boasts a 5-metre-high ceiling, offering breathtaking views of St. Paul’s Cathedral and London’s skyline. The suite also features a private marble-topped bar, ideal for enjoying drinks at sunset.
On the ground floor, guests can experience Leydi, a contemporary Turkish restaurant that brings the vibrant flavours of Istanbul to London. The menu, curated by renowned chefs Selin Kiazim and Halil Simsek, offers a variety of dishes such as meze, home-baked pide, and Mangal-grilled meats and fish, encouraging a communal dining experience. The restaurant’s drink selection, created by award-winning mixologist Kevin Patnode, includes raki-based cocktails and a curated list of Mediterranean wines. The warm and stylish interior of Leydi enhances the dining experience, making it a welcoming spot for both locals and visitors.
As night falls, the hotel’s underground cocktail bar, Black Lacquer, becomes the centre of attention. This intimate venue pays homage to Hyde’s origins in the Los Angeles club scene and is accessible via an exclusive entrance on Green Arbour Court. The bar features intimate booth seating and a collection of carefully curated vinyl, creating an atmosphere that celebrates music, food, and drinks. Black Lacquer offers expertly crafted cocktails and a menu of Tokyo-inspired small plates, all set to an ever-changing soundtrack of vinyl records that reflect the mood of the guests. The bar also collaborates with emerging DJs and artists, establishing itself as a cultural hub within the city.
Hyde London City’s prime location in Farringdon places it within easy reach of several of London’s historic and cultural landmarks, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Old Bailey, 180 Studios, and the Barbican Centre. The surrounding area, known for its eclectic history and emerging creative scene, will heavily influence the hotel’s cultural and music programming, aligning with the Hyde brand’s ethos.
