In a quiet part of Warwickshire, a new venue has quietly made its entrance, offering members a transportive experience into a different era. Hush, a private members’ club developed by Leam Properties, has opened its doors in a basement space beside the River Avon, bringing with it a design steeped in 1920s influence.

The bar, which operates behind a members-only policy, has been fitted out by Black Ivy Design, whose interiors fuse the decadence of the Roaring Twenties with a measured approach to modern luxury. Velvet textures, ambient lighting, and a rich colour palette contribute to the overall concept, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of an era of jazz and clandestine evenings.

“The client envisioned a space that would capture the spirit of the 1920s, but with the refinement and comfort of today,” said Leanne Armstrong, Founder and Creative Director of Black Ivy Design. “We wanted every detail to feel intentional, every element to tell a story, and the result is a space that feels intimate yet spectacular.”

Hush’s interior scheme faced a number of spatial challenges. With low ceilings and proximity to the River Avon, the project required a reimagining of how light and material could be used to turn constraints into features. Over the course of nine months, the team transformed the area into a setting that is deliberately atmospheric, designed to cocoon rather than expose.

The lighting design emerged as a central feature of the project, shifting initial limitations into strengths. “The lighting became the backbone of the mood,” Armstrong added. “We wanted guests to feel cocooned, like they’ve stepped into another world.” A layered system of uplighting, hidden LED strips, wall sconces, and statement pendants brings depth to the room, while the subdued ceiling height enhances a feeling of closeness and retreat.

Anna Hayman Designs contributed the pendant lighting, each fixture casting a soft glow that works in tandem with golden-toned table lamps and fluted glass accents. The lighting scheme embraces a warm white spectrum, designed to slow the pace and invite relaxation.

The tactile experience is central to the club’s concept. Velvet drapes and furnishings dominate, underpinned by a palette of deep reds and navy blues. Art deco motifs are present throughout – from the upholstery fabrics to the detailed finishings on custom-designed furniture. Chenille wallcoverings and fluted features help build a sense of quiet luxury, making each surface an element of the overall narrative.

Commenting on the completed venue, Leam Properties stated: “We couldn’t be more delighted with the interior design by Black Ivy Design – it truly feels like stepping back in time. Leanne and her team brought our vision to life with remarkable precision, creating a space that is as sophisticated as it is timeless. Every detail captures the essence of our members’ club, striking the perfect balance between style and comfort. We are incredibly proud to call this space our home.”

Since opening softly, Hush has begun to attract attention from both local residents and visitors. Its blend of curated detail, layered design, and discreet setting has positioned it as a new fixture in Warwickshire’s social landscape. While exclusive to members, its aesthetic and atmosphere signal a distinct shift in how hospitality spaces are being envisioned – not as transient or trend-driven, but as lasting, immersive environments.
