Following a consistent streak of successful openings across the UK, German Doner Kebab (GDK) has announced it will be unveiling a new site in one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, Metrocentre, bringing its high-quality tasting kebabs to the dominant North East destination, with an official date to be announced.

As one of the fastest-growing restaurant groups across the nation, GDK is known for its innovative dedication to bringing Halal-friendly kebabs to every location. The opening of GDK Metrocentre, which has a capacity for 42 covers with a 2,823 sq ft site, marks the brand’s 143rd franchised location across the UK and the second location within the Newcastle region to date.

The restaurant group sets the standard by only using premium cuts of meat, fresh locally sourced salad, signature handmade sauces, and GDK’s signature toasted waffle bread. GDK has recently launched a plant-based doner, offering vegetarian alternatives to the mains, the Boss Box, and the Doner Box.

Simon Wallis, CEO of German Doner Kebab, said: “I am thrilled to officially announce plans to bring the unique GDK taste sensation to the Metrocentre Shopping Centre. GDK is revolutionising kebabs across the UK and I am confident we will continue this trend in Gateshead. GDK offers a premium dining experience with game-changing kebabs that are made fresh daily by our hard-working team powered by our fantastic franchise partners. We pride ourselves in ensuring that kebabs are done right and served in a modern and relaxed environment, making it a unique restaurant experience for all new members of the ever-growing GDK community.”

Ahead of the opening, Noah Knapton, Asset Manager at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, added: “GDK’s new site at Metrocentre continues to demonstrate the pull we have to international operators, delivering choice across a critical mass of global and independent restaurants. Sitting alongside the likes of Five Guys, Slim Chickens, and Wingstop, GDK will provide a tried and tested grab-and-go offer, and one that will no doubt hit the right notes for our visitors as we continue to build a solid F&B line-up in Yellow Mall.”

The restaurant will be located on the ground floor of Yellow Mall, opposite the recently upsized Primark, with a takeaway and delivery service for those on the go from the GDK app, Deliveroo, UberEats, and Just Eat.
