BOXPARK, has received planning permission to open a new venue in Birmingham’s vibrant Digbeth district. Set to launch in 2025, BOXPARK will occupy the iconic Floodgate Street Arches, signing a 15-year lease and investing approximately £5 million into the area. The new venue is expected to create around 200 jobs and drive significant footfall, contributing to Digbeth’s reputation as a hub for culture, dining, and entertainment.
Famous for its diverse street food, independent traders, and high-energy events, BOXPARK’s Birmingham location will focus on showcasing local talent, offering opportunities for independent and established food operators as well as artists, creators, and performers from the area. The venue will feature a food hall under four 12m railway arches, spanning nearly 17,000 sq. ft., with around 10 kitchen units and four internal bars spread across two floors. Additionally, the design will make use of the vaulted spaces to create an immersive atmosphere, incorporating social gaming like shuffleboard and table games.
BOXPARK’s new site will also offer just over 10,500 sq. ft. of outdoor space for al fresco dining and events, providing a versatile area for both food and entertainment. The approval of this development marks BOXPARK’s first venue in the Midlands and follows the success of its expansions into other major UK cities, including its first opening outside of London in Liverpool.
Ben McLaughlin, Chief Operating Officer of BOXPARK, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming project: “We’re thrilled to have received planning approval and are excited to move forward with the opening of our new site in this vibrant city. This will be a big project for the team and our aim is to carefully restore the Floodgate Street Arches while giving it a new lease of life.
“Digbeth’s eclectic and creative business community is a perfect match for our ethos of supporting and championing local, independent talent. This marks an exciting new chapter for BOXPARK, and we look forward to contributing to the area’s continued growth.”
The BOXPARK venue in Digbeth will include space for immersive food and drink experiences, with its distinctive mix of local offerings and social entertainment, set to become a major destination for both residents and visitors to Birmingham.
