Big Licks has completed its relocation from Deansgate to a new unit within Printworks Manchester, strengthening the venue’s family-friendly food and beverage lineup. The move, announced by asset owner DTZ Investors, aligns with a broader strategy to appeal to daytime visitors and family groups while enhancing the site’s leisure credentials.

The brand brings its well-established formula of handmade organic Scottish ice cream, premium smash burgers, and indulgent shakes to a newly fitted unit opposite the Vue cinema.

Founded in 2008 in Glasgow, Big Licks has grown from a single outlet into a multi-location operator with branches in Glasgow, Renfrew and central Manchester. Its reputation is built on an emphasis on quality and locally sourced ingredients, a formula that has cultivated a loyal following in Scotland and the North of England.

Anees Ahmed, Managing Director at Big Licks, said:
“We’re super excited to open in Printworks – an iconic entertainment venue that continues to evolve. At Big Licks, quality is at the heart of everything we do, from our carefully sourced ingredients to the fun and welcoming experience we create for our guests. We’re looking forward to serving up our signature dishes to families and friends.”

The relocation forms part of a wider refresh at Printworks Manchester, which underwent a £27 million transformation completed in March 2024. The refurbishment introduced features such as Europe’s largest digital ceiling and contributed to a nearly 10% rise in annual visitor numbers, solidifying the venue’s status as a leading UK entertainment and leisure destination.

Centre Manager Daniel Davis welcomed the addition:
“Big Licks is a fantastic addition to our food and drink lineup. As we continue to broaden our offer for families and casual diners, this kind of quality, experience-led brand is exactly what we’re looking to attract.”

The venue’s new layout and tenant mix are part of an evolving strategy led by DTZ Investors to enhance Printworks’ daytime appeal and cement its role as a full-day destination. The opening of Big Licks contributes to this positioning by offering an option that caters to families and younger visitors in a space traditionally focused on nightlife and entertainment.

The transaction was supported by Metis Real Estate Advisors and Stärka, who represented Printworks in the deal.
