Hotel management company Aimbridge Hospitality EMEA has been appointed to manage the new-build Hampton by Hilton St Helens.
The 120-guestroom hotel will be located on Bickerstaffe Street and is part of regeneration plans to transform St Helens’ town centre, a scheme being delivered with ECF, a partnership between Homes England, Legal & General, and Muse.
Owned by St Helens Borough Council, the hotel will feature 96 guest rooms over four floors, plus 16 long-stay guest rooms – suitable for families and business travellers staying at the hotel for an extended period – and eight fully accessible rooms.
Facilities will include a fitness suite and two flexible ground floor meeting rooms for hire by business and leisure guests, as well as non-residents.
The hotel will form part of a mixed-use area that includes 64 high quality homes, a stunning new market hall, new transport interchange and 10,000 sq ft of modern retail space.
Subject to Reserved Matters planning consent, work on the new hotel is set to commence in 2025, with clearance of the existing site before the construction phase begins. The project is estimated to be completed in 2027.
David Anderson, divisional president at Aimbridge EMEA, said: “We’re excited to welcome this new-build hotel to our portfolio, at the heart of the transformational regeneration programme that is getting underway in St Helens’ town centre.
“We have extensive experience in managing Hampton by Hilton properties around the globe, and we’re looking forward to putting that experience into action with this latest signing.”
The regeneration programme will be built on land currently occupied by the Hardshaw Centre shopping area, which closed in July and is due to be demolished. The Hampton by Hilton hotel will be opposite a new bus station and a two-minute walk from St Helens Central train station, as part of an extended multi-modal transport interchange.
Lisa Harris, Executive Director of Place Services at St Helens Borough Council, said: “Aimbridge has an outstanding reputation and oversees all day-to-day property operations of some of the world’s best known hotel brands. Quality is key to everything we are working to achieve in St Helens and the highly effective management of this important new asset in the town centre will help our borough to retain, grow and attract businesses and boost our visitor economy.
“The new hotel will also mean jobs and opportunities for local people. The firm is committed to offering great careers for people new to the hospitality industry as well as seasoned professionals. We are very pleased to have taken another positive step forward, with many more to come in the town centre transformation.”
